Betty’s is directly opposite the beach entrance at Mawgan Porth, one of Cornwall’s finest beaches. It’s a fantastic beach for families and surfers alike, with acres of sand for kids to play and build sand castles, awesome surfing waves for experienced and beginners and the added bonus that it is one of a select few year round dog friendly beaches. Our surf shop has a surf hire facility with sales of new and second hand surf boards on offer throughout the whole summer. We are also home to Kingsurf school, the areas premier BSA licenced school. Follow links on the site for information and bookings.
Sunday Times Jan 2007, From top 10 Beach Holidays, Mawgan Porth ranked 6th.
There are better known and busier beaches in Cornwall, but few can match the raw beauty of Mawgan Porth, on the north coast near Newquay. Shielded on both sides by cliffs, it has acres of soft white sand, rock pools, caves and magical sunsets. The surf is ideal beginners, and there is a school on the beach.
Betty’s was built during the summer of 1958 and was an addition to the original Beach Café which opened in 1931. The café itself was eventually split into two with one half remaining as the café and the other as the Betty’s surf shop. Follow this link to view pictures of Mawgan Porth over the years: www.smip10.org.uk/photo_gallery.htm. The newsagent’s lends it’s name to the original owner, Betty Arnold who has since passed away, and by every owner since keeping the original name the shop has remained as the centre piece of Mawgan Porth. The shop is currently owned by mother and son, Stuart and Judith Kirk, and is being carried on in the tradition that has always been popular with locals and tourists alike.
We sell most things except kitchen sinks! We have a wide range of products which can be viewed throughout our website. For any information please follow the contact links at the bottom.
